One of the organisers of the Green Concert, Dereck Mpofu who doubles up as the goodwill ambassador for the Water Conservation and Zero Littering Campaign, confirmed Zahara’s date with Bulawayo.

“Far from being just a musical concert, this year’s edition of the Green Concert seeks to go way beyond the achievements and areas of improvement from 2013,”Mpofu said.

A run-up of events shall include site visits to conservation areas, various clean-ups and educational environmental campaigns will occur prior to the event to push the environmental agenda further.”

Zahara will first perform at another concert in Harare on May 9.

A bush concert will be held at Chingwizi following the Tokwe-Mukosi flooding that left several thousands homeless.

Environment, Water and Climate minister Saviour Kasukuwere is expected to be the guest of honour at the Harare concert.

Zahara’s debut album Loliwe released in 2011 sold out within 72 hours and 19 days later the album reached double platinum status in South Africa when it surpassed 100 000 sales.

She became the second musician in South Africa to reach this figure in such record time, after Brenda Fassie’s Memeza sold 500 000 copies within weeks of release.

Zahara, who won album of the year, female artiste of the year, newcomer of the year, best selling album, best smooth urban music album and best collaboration at the 18th Sama Awards held at Sun City in South Africa on May 2012, will be joined on the stage by an array of local artistes including Willis Wataffi.

The concert that serves as an environmental awareness campaign through music, dance and song will be held under the theme “Remembering Tokwe-Mukosi — One Environmental Family”.

Mpofu advised fans to purchase tickets in advance at the Environmental Management Agency’s offices countrywide.

The concert will be part of the Green ambassador’s mission to promote positive attitudes and initiatives with regard environmental issues.
