Phiri took over the reins at the Chinda Boys this year and assembled a new squad dominated by unheralded players.

His charges are unbeaten at home this season with three wins over Triangle, Bantu Rovers, Black Rhinos and a draw against champions Dynamos.

On Sunday, Phiri’s charges presented their title credentials with a top drawer performance in a thriller against the defending league champions.

“They are last year’s champions not this year. We do not have a champion as yet for this season. We want to win the league this year, when you get into a competition the objective is to win it and we are no exception,” Phiri said.

“Dynamos dominated us in the first half, but in the second half we came into the match and dominated them and that was a good sign from the boys.

“We built our team from scratch and now we are playing well. If we can only remain united then we could achieve big things,” he said.

Phiri, however, justified his wishes that they were not just a figment of his imagination with a performance reminiscent of champions against Dynamos. The match was played at an electrifying pace with a lot of purpose from both sides.

Chinda Boys players like Douglas Sibanda, Zvikomborero Bizek, Merson Nelson, Godknows Murwira and captain Smart Muchabaiwa had a good game keeping fans at the edge of their seats with a good performance.

Pasuwa, whose throne at the league champions is under serious scrutiny, acknowledged that Shabanie are very a good side.

The Chinda Boys are currently sitting on position six with 11 points three from log leaders Hwange who have 14 points from seven matches.
