The competition was featured on ZBC/TV as a reality show and ran for six months before winners were announced a fortnight ago.

But the Bulawayo group claims the prize money and an overseas trip the organisers promised never materialised.

“The promoters are being dodgy in clarifying what our prizes are,” fumed the group’s spokesperson Ricco Andrews.

“They promised us money and a trip to Singapore at the outset of the competition, but they have not been forthcoming when asked about the prizes,” he said.

The group, whose smash Pokello dance video went viral, has not had a pretty affair with the organisers since they participated in the competition.

They were reportedly stuck for days in Norton after the organisers failed to give them transport money following the finals of the competition.

“We feel a lot of our time has been consumed for nothing as we could have been working on other worthwhile projects,” said Andrews whose group has been pre-occupied with the competition for the past six months with the hope of grabbing some rich pickings from the national show.

But yesterday the organisers denied promising artistes cash or overseas trips as alleged by the winners.

Ghetto Fabulaz public relations officer Lavender Mushonga charged that as organisers they never advertised that they would give anyone cash or trips.

“We can supply you with the footage of our adverts aired on ZBC/TV,” Mushonga said in an interview with Southern Eye Lifestyle yesterday.

She claimed the organisers were waiting to seal a deal for another winner in the music category, Admire Moyo from Bulawayo, before “tailor-making” a contract for Antivirus to suit their aspirations as a group.

Moyo is said to have won an $80 000 recording deal with South Africa-based recording stable Afro Platinum Music.

“We advised Antivirus that their contract falls under Ghetto Fabulaz and we would like to tailor-make their contract in line with their vision as a group so that we develop them. We gave them a recording deal, but they said they were signed under another promoter,” said Mushonga.

However, shockingly, the dance group alleges that the organisers are now claiming the group is signed under them hence they have to work according to their terms.
