In the first round Zimbabwe played Botswana and beat them 1-0 in the first match and 2-1 in the return leg with Violet Bepete, Rutendo Makore and Marjoury Nyahumwe on target for the Mighty Warriors.

“We last participated in the competition in 2004. Before that we had taken part in the 2000 and 2002 competitions. Our aim when we go into this match will be to qualify. We had a better draw this time around,” she said.

Mugadza said although she has a youthful side, they were going to do their best.

“All is set. Our preparations have been going well and we hope the players will carry the enthusiasm they had in their first matches into the next game. Zambia has been in camp since sometime in April, but we will do our best,” she added.

“We have included a number of players that did not take part in the Botswana match. Polite Magada, Pretty Matshazi and Pamela Bvochera have joined the team. We have also recalled Danai Bobo who has not been in the team for some time,” she said.

The provisional team has Rudo Neshamba, Nobuhle Majika, Kudzanai Chiparausha, Lindiwe Magwede, Prisca Khumalo, Erina Jeke, Kuda Bhasopo and Talent Mbepo.

To qualify for the second round, Zambia beat Tanzania 2-1 at home after they had played a 1-1 draw in Tanzania.

Seven teams will be drawn from the qualifiers to join hosts Namibia from October 11-24 for the finals of the tournament. The Africa Women’s Championships serve as a qualifier for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada where the three top teams would make the trip.
