David Mpanza of Chinotimba high-density suburb appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani and pleaded guilty.

Prosecutor David Tivakudze told the court that on April 18, Caroline Bazel arrived in Victoria Falls from Kenya and gave Mpanza 15 handbags, 100 wooden spoons, 10 sandals, six big bowels, four beaded bags and asked him to sell them on her behalf in the country for a commission.

After selling the goods, Mpanza gave Bazel $380 and converted $1 440 to his own use.

Rosemani sentenced Mpanza to 12 months in prison. Four months were suspended on condition that he performs 140 hours of community service at the Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court.

A further eight months were suspended on condition that he compensates Bazel $1 440 before September 1.
