THE Sables will go into camp next week ahead of a planned tour of South Africa later this month in preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup qualifiers in Madagascar.

DANIEL NHAKANISO SPORTS REPORTER A preliminary squad of 30 players was on Friday submitted to the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) ahead of the qualification tournament where they will play against hosts Namibia and Kenya from June 26 to July 6.

The winner of the four-team tournament will automatically qualify for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England next year.

Sables team manager Brighton Chivandire said the squad which is yet to meet as a group since the start of the year would meet for camp for the first time next week (June 10).

Locally-based players have been training in batches in Harare and Bulawayo once every week since the start of the year.

Head coach Brendan Dawson has been taking the southern region-based players through their paces in Bulawayo.

His assistant Cyprian Mandenge is working with the players based in Harare.

“We are meeting for camp on the 10th of June,” Chivandire said in an interview yesterday.

“There is likely going to be a tour to South Africa, it hasn’t been finalised yet and at the moment we are still in the process of finalising all the logistics,” he said.

The Sables would be hoping to play two preparatory matches against South African rugby union team Limpopo Blue Bulls and their academy side in South Africa.
