A 12-YEAR-OLD girl slapped a 43-year-old neighbour several times on the face to rescue herself from the man who lay on top of her after luring the girl into his bed by offering her a packet of Jiggies. ALBERT NCUBE OWN CORRESPONDENT
Twaibu Phiri, a miner at Blanket Mine, denied indecent assault charges when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Sheila Nazombe on Monday and judgment on the case has been set for today.
Prosecutor Mncedisi Dube told the court that sometime last month Phiri saw the Grade 5 pupil playing with his neighbours’ children and asked the four of them to clean his refrigerator.
After cleaning it, Phiri gave the girls some crisps as a token of appreciation.
A few days later, Phiri spotted the girl playing with his neighbour’s daughter and the latter was called into the house by her mother.
Phiri called the girl into his house and gave her some jiggies as she sat on the sofa watching television.
Phiri reportedly went to his bedroom and invited the girl to join him. When she entered the bedroom, Phiri ordered her to lie on the bed and she initially refused, but gave in.
The girl reportedly lay on her side with her face to the wall and Phiri got on top of her.

On May 17, the girl’s guardian heard her and her friends talking about having been given crisps by Phiri and quizzed her until she revealed the attempted rape.
In his defence, Phiri denied ever calling the girl into his house when she was alone saying the only time she entered his house was in the company of her friends when he asked them to clean his refrigerator.
However, the girl, who gave evidence in a closed court, maintained that Phiri attempted to rape her.
