Joey Antipas’ side already have Frankson Bushiri from Buffaloes and are on a steady rise in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the last two weeks. They are now aiming higher.

“We have not done too badly. Our problem is mainly on attack. We are not utilising chances that come our way. That is a countrywide problem. We are going to add one or two players. We have already signed Frankson Bushiri from Buffaloes. Our eyes are all over although I cannot disclose the players we want now,” Antipas said.

As the transfer window opens, well-managed clubs from the southern and central regions are ready to open their cheque books.

Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu said they were targeting a few players following the departure of Milton Ncube, Peter Moyo, Kuda Mahachi and Khumbulani Banda who is on trials with Absa PSL side Maritzburg United.

“We are happy with what the team has done so far. Getting more players will mean starting all over again, but we need about four players to replace Milton, Rio (Peter Moyo), Mahachi and we have Khumbulani who is attending trials. Whether Khumbulani goes or not we need a defender. I cannot say which players we are targeting now,” he said.

“The players who joined us this year have done well. Credit must be given where it is due although we still feel we could have done better. We thank God for the position we are in.”

Metallon Gold-sponsored outfit How Mine have had a fine run in the league despite the 1-2 loss to Triangle in Harare on Sunday.

“It has been a super performance from the team. I am very happy about where we are at the present moment. We will go to the market to beef up our strike force which is a grey area we are working on,” How Mine head coach Philani Ncube said.

Hwange have also had a good start in the league. They have won six, drawn three and lost four matches.

Coach Nation Dube said they needed a few additions.

“I am happy with my team although we had setbacks on weeks 12 and 13 because we lost our matches. We need to make additions maybe in midfield and defence,” he said.

Shabanie Mine coach John Phiri said despite losing several players at the start of the season, they were soldiering on.

“So far so good for us. We lost several players at the beginning of this season and we had to build another team. The youngsters seem to be adapting well,” he said.

“We are proving people wrong because no one gave us a chance. Some of the youngsters are wanted by other clubs, so we might bring in two midfielders and two strikers. We are still negotiating with other clubs,” he said.

Phiri said the 2-1 victory over Harare City on Saturday in Harare was a morale booster and said they were now looking forward to the next game against Buffaloes and back-to-back clashes with Zvishavane town rivals FC Platinum. Bantu Rovers coach Methembe Ndlovu said he was content with the players at his disposal.

“We might just add one player if we see that he fits in on and off the field of play. Coaches must take responsibility for the poor results. I want to be one of those. I do not want to accept praise when we win, but say we need to sign more players when we lose,” he said.

“We have players who are good enough. We have made tactical mistakes as coaches and we need to take responsibility.”

FC Platinum is on the verge of losing striker Njabulo Ncube who is retracing his footsteps back to the Bulawayo giants.

Head coach Lloyd Mutasa said: “I am OK with the players. We just need to polish up on a few aspects. We might make one or two additions.”
