Sakupwanya declared national hero

THE late Zanu PF politburo member, retired Colonel Stanley Urayayi Sakupwanya, has been declared a national hero and will be buried at the Heroes’ Acre on Sunday.

“He has been declared a national hero and will be buried on Sunday at the National Heroes’ Acre,” Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said yesterday.

Sakupwanya, who was the party’s secretary for welfare of the disabled and disadvantaged persons in the politiburo, died at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare after a long illness.

He was 75.

Sakupwanya, a long standing member of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union, was born in Bulawayo in 1939.

He is survived by 11 children and 15 grandchildren. Mourners are gathered at Number 11 Pevensey Road in Highlands, Harare.
