Court sets ‘riotous’ soldier free

CHARGES of disorderly conduct and riotous behaviour against a soldier based at Headquarters 1 Brigade in Bulawayo, popularly known as Brady Barracks, were yesterday withdrawn before plea at the Magistrates’ Court.

Charles Mushayabvudzi, who resides at the marriage quarters in the barracks, was not asked to plead to the charge of riotous behaviour and disorderly conduct in a public place when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa.

Muchemwa ruled that the charges had been withdrawn due to lack of evidence.

The State had alleged that on May 7 at around 7pm, Mushayabvudzi was approached by a colleague Lameck Mandaza with the intention of discussing the love affair between their children.

The two failed to agree and allegedly engaged in a fight in public.

A report was made to the police and Mushayabvudzi was arrested.
