Teacher jailed for sex with student

A MARRIED teacher from Gutu who was reported by his wife for having a sex romp with a Form 1 girl has been slapped with a two-year jail term.

However, Saymore Manjonjo will serve an effective one-and-half years after six months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Gutu resident magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini heard that Manjonjo of Zinatha Primary School had initially proposed love to the girl while she was in Grade 7 and continued to pursue her when she went to Nemashakwe Secondary School.

Prosecutor Agatha Gabriel told the court that Manjonjo proposed to the girl during the April school holidays during a beer drink at her parents’ homestead while his wife was away.

He was said to have later called the girl on her grandmother’s cellphone and invited her to his place where they had sex on the sofa.

However, Manjonjo’s luck ran out after his wife intercepted intimate text messages between the two and confronted the girl’s grandmother and asked her to warn her granddaughter to stop seeing her husband.

The grandmother then informed the girl’s uncle about the issue and when he quizzed her, she confirmed to being involved in a sexual relationship with Manjonjo.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Manjonjo’s arrest.

A medical report produced in court confirmed penetration.
