The VFCF has been pencilled for August 6-11 and would run under the theme “A Cultural Confluence: The world as one”.

The six-day cultural jamboree is being hosted by the Zimbabwe Music Association (Zimma) in which a Joshua Nkomo Photographic Exhibition and International Heritage will be held. The exhibition is also scheduled to tour Zambia.

Mish Nyakudarika, the secretary-general of Zimma, told Southern Eye Lifestyle the photographic exhibition would be held in Victoria Falls on August 10 before going on tour of Zambia the following day.

“This is to honour and celebrate the life and legacy of our national and cultural icon, Father Zimbabwe. The educational tour will retrace the steps of Father Zimbabwe going into Zambia after release from prison in 1964 to direct and co-ordinate the liberation struggle for independence,”he said.

“The aim is to galvanise efforts towards the promotion and advancement of the legacy of Nyongolo among youths and artistes. The tour will include visiting and touring former refugee camps and memorial sites, places and institutions where he worked while in Zambia.”

Artistes and groups such as Black Umfolosi, Hloseni, Thandanani, Iluba Lemvelo, Bembera, Kweseka Dance Troupe and Umdumo Wesizwe have been lined up to perform at the festival to run concurrently with a food fair where African cuisine would be on offer for sampling.

African ethnic designs will be showcased, added Nyakudarika.

Afro-beat singer, Busi Ncube now based in Sweden, of the I need True Love fame, has been pencilled to headline the evening official opening of the festival at the resort town.

Subsequent nights will accommodate various events like Ladies of Jazz, Cultural Tourism Gala arts and craft fair and an international heritage carnival parade.
