Masvingo is hosting the games for the second time since their inception in 2003.

Simba said they had raised $15 000 so far.

“Our budget for sending the team to the Youth Games is $72 000,” he said.

“When the Bulawayo Sports Management board was unveiled last week we managed to raise $15 000 through pledges.

“We are grateful that we are going to get one fuelled bus from Bravo. We still need two buses to ferry the team to Masvingo.” He said they were hoping to raise the targeted amount this month.

“We are going to have other activities like a golf day to try and raise the money,” he said.

Bulawayo Province clinched first-ever National Youth Games title in games hosted in the city last year.

Masvingo who won the 2004 edition came second.

Mashonaland East was third. Harare who had dominated the games winning nine titles dropped down to fourth.

Matabeleland North came last after similar performances in 2011 and 2012 editions that were hosted by Matabeleland South and Mashonaland Central respectively.

Simba said they wanted to send a full team to the games this year.

“We are hoping to send 200 athletes and 68 officials.

Over the years we have not been sending a full contingent, but this year we want to do so as we want to defend our title,” he said.

“The teams are getting ready. But we are still to get the names of women’s football and tennis teams which we should be getting this week.”
