The group earned themselves the sole ticket to represent the province in the national finals that will be held in Harare later this year.

They left the venue $1 000 richer. Facebook Brothers landed the second spot winning $500 while Voices of Glory settled for the third position with $300 prize money.

The well organised event by Delta Beverages in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) saw multitudes of fun lovers thronging Manor Hotel to watch the different groups belting out their stuff.

Groups that took part in the competition put up spirited performances that were highly energetic.

The performances gave adjudicators a tough time in choosing the winning group.

Ncengile Moyo, the Sounds of Universe band leader, could not hide her joy saying last year they were the provincial winners, but failed at the big stage. She said they were now ready to make up for the disappointment.

“We are happy that we have won today,” Moyo said.

“Last year we went to the national finals and we lost, but this year we will work hard so that when we go to Harare we will shine because we believe that we now have the required experience we didn’t have last year when we went to the big stage.”

NACZ programmes officer for Bulawayo province, William Nyandoro, said he was happy that upcoming artistes were now taking such initiatives from the corporate world seriously.

“As organisers of the event we are happy that upcoming artistes in the city are taking seriously such initiatives that seek to boost the industry and there is a need for them to continue working and supporting such events,” Nyandoro said.

The Chibuku Road- to Fame competition is an annual event sponsored by Delta Beverages through the Chibuku brand.

It is organised by NACZ and is the country’s largest music talent identification platform.
