Dzikamai Nyoni (38) appeared before Kwekwe resident magistrate Taurai Manwere to answer charges of stealing $446 294, R24 176,50 and P246 from her employer through under declarations of money received from cashiers and of closing stock as well as deliberate manipulation of stock records.

The State led by Tinashe Mhonda told the court that Nyoni manipulated stock sheets, banking records and other documents to steal nearly half a million from Patricia Mashoko, the director of Majoni Bar.

It was the State’s case that from 2012, Nyoni, who is also related to Mashoko, on seven occasions stole money from the bar and converted it to her own use.

She, however, denied the allegations through her lawyer Linnet Makande saying her employer audited the books in her absence and information could therefore have been doctored to implicate her in a theft she was not involved in.

Nyoni was remanded out of custody to August 18 on $1 000 bail which was paid on her behalf by Methodist Church members who sympathised with her.
