Organised as a fundraising event played under the four-ball better-ball format, the tournament was won by Mike Molloy and Todd Van Breda with 49 points.

Chris Bannister and Ray Mlotshwa got 47 points to come second after counting out Rakesh Rajput and Mayur Patel. The fourth position was decided on a count-out.

Heather Watson and Kylie Smith won the count-out after they collected 43 points relegating Piks Patel and Hanesh Ranchod to position five.

Dougie Thacker won the nearest to the pin on hole number three while Pete Einhorn, Clemency Sibanda and Jay Lalla won the nearest to the pins on hole numbers 7,11 and 15 respectively.

Fisa committee member Thoko Ndlovu said the event was a success.

“We raised over $2 200. The money will go towards purchasing the school’s basic necessities,” she said.

“We are still fundraising for the school bus. The response from former Inyathi students from Harare and Bulawayo including the Bulawayo Golf Club golfers was very overwhelming.”

Inyathi deputy headmaster Frank Phiri said the fundraising event would go a long way in assisting the school.

“We appreciate the support that we are getting from Bulawayo Golf Club and former Inyathi students,” he said.

“The funds are going to help us buy books and laboratory materials. Part of the money will go towards the long-term project of buying a bus.”

Fisa chairman Joshua Mpofu said they were hoping that the fundraising event would continue next year as this year’s initiative was successful.

Some of former students who took part included Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede, Getrude Nyakutse, Tivington Ncube, Harare-based lawyer Vulindlela Sibanda and Olicah Kaira, among others.
