Eight children went through their paces on Saturday when the academy was launched by Heath Streak Consultancy and Sports Development chief executive officer Joseph Rego at the institution. Bhebhe said it was important to have the football academy which will cater for children from the age of five to the Under-17s for both boys and girls.
“I have been in football since 2001. It is very important that we have a football school because we don’t have such a facility in the city right now where football skills are taught to youngsters at a very early age by people who are qualified to do so. This is a skills programme a bit different from the soccer clubs that are there. We are going to start from five years to Under-17,” he said. The football academy will be an
after-school programme and during the school holidays. It will allow schools to book coaches who will visit schools to impart football skills to children. Rego welcomed Bhebhe into the Heath Streak Foundation.
“He is going to start a soccer academy here which imparts soccer education and training to our upcoming generation and definitely in the years to come,” Rego said.
Bhebhe is a Level Three coach who holds international qualifications from the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona and Instituto Brasileiro de Football.
He has previously coached Sparrows, Chicken Inn, Satmos in Botswana, Bulawayo Jumbos and has been attached to the Plumtree Chiefs (then Bulawayo Chiefs) Academy.
