Some FC Platinum fans are reported to have bayed for Mutasa’s blood soon after the goalless draw against Chapungu at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.

Soon after the One Wallet quarter-final 1-0 loss to Chicken Inn on July 18, some FC Platinum fans were seen milling around the stadium saying they wanted to “deal” with Mutasa because of poor results.

“We are fully in support of our head coach Lloyd Mutasa. Fans are entitled to their opinions, but as FC Platinum we will not accept anyone who will make a personal attack on him. As far as we are concerned we believe that the results will start coming,” she said.

FC Platinum have been hit by injuries to key players like Donald Ngoma, Daniel Vheremu and Nelson Mazivisa forcing the technical team to make a number of changes. There have been reports that some of the club’s executive members want Mutasa to be fired and replaced with assistant coach Ralph Kawondera, who masterminded a 2-1 derby win over Shabanie Mine last month.

However, in a statement last week, club president George Mawere dismissed the reports that their head coach would be replaced.

“For the past year we have been going through a rebuilding exercise, which has seen a number of new players, juniors included, joining the team. This factor, taken together with the fact that 12 of our senior players are battling with various forms of injuries, has understandably contributed to our under-performance,” said Mawere in the statement.

“What we need more than ever is to believe in our team and show unity of purpose. I have no doubt FC Platinum will emerge from this episode a stronger club.” The Zvishavane side is on position six on the log table with 24 points from 17 games-eight points behind leaders Highlanders. Tomorrow, they are in Bulawayo for a date against struggling Bantu Rovers.
