A PROMINENT Zvishavane businessman appeared in the Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges after he allegedly pounded another businessman with clenched fists in the town centre following a misunderstanding.

Samuel Gondwe (41) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madiba for allegedly punching Patrick Muguti at a local service station in the mining town.

It was the State’s case that on August 1, Gondwe was driving his black Hummer which he parked at Glow Petroleum Garage owned by Muguti intending to pick up a colleague.

Muguti approached Gondwe and asked him not to park at his garage as the two were alleged to be serious business rivals.

Gondwe refused to leave and instead disembarked from his vehicle. A misunderstanding erupted between the two and Gondwe is alleged to have punched Muguti a number of times.

Muguti was saved by his workers who restrained Gondwe and took him to his car.

Gondwe was remanded out of custody today.
