A 23-year-old pregnant woman from New Luveve in Bulawayo disappeared from her sister’s house on Tuesday evening where she was recuperating after being discharged from Mpilo Central Hospital. RICHARD MUPONDE SENIOR REPORTER Abigail Sibanda was admitted at Mpilo Hospital on Saturday following some complications and was discharged on Tuesday, the day that she later disappeared.

Her sister Thandazani Ndimande and Bhekinkosi Ndimande yesterday visited the Southern Eye offices to appeal to anyone who knows the whereabouts of Sibanda to assist them as they were puzzled by her disappearance.

Thandazani said Sibanda disappeared from the New Luveve home just after 7pm.

“She went to the toilet and later into the kitchen while we were seated with my children in the sitting room.

“When I later couldn’t hear any movements in the kitchen, I sent the children to check for her and they found her gone,” she said.

“We launched a search for her in the suburb, but could not locate her.

“We went to Mpilo, United Bulawayo Hospitals and Luveve Clinic, but we could not find her.

“We then decided at around midnight to make a report to the police for a missing person.”

She said they had not quarrelled with Sibanda, but she was insisting that she wanted to go back to her boyfriend Dumisani Nyoni’s house in Green Hill.

Nyoni is the one who took her to hospital when she developed complications with her pregnancy while visiting him. Nyoni is known to the family.

Nyoni yesterday confirmed that he had been informed of Sibanda’s disappearance and that she had been with him for a number of days before he took her to Mpilo after she complained of labour pains.

“I called an ambulance on Saturday and she was taken to Mpilo Hospital where she was admitted until Tuesday when she was discharged and went back with her sister to New Luveve,” he said.

“She had been here with me for three days before the complications started.

“We had not fought. It’s only that she fell ill that’s why I had to take her to hospital.

“I am still involved in searching for her. I was hoping she would come here but she hasn’t done so.”
