Bulawayo choir triumphs

MUMC earned themselves the sole ticket to represent Bulawayo-Midlands district at the national finals to be held in October from their composition Wagadzira here nhasi.

They got prize money of $100 and a gold trophy while the previously undefeated Bulawayo West who had taken the trophy for four consecutive years came second this time around and received $75 and a silver trophy.

Leader of mumc choir, Never Chafungamoyo, said the they put in a lot of hard work.

“We worked hard to get here and we thank God. We believe this is the favour of the Lord and we have not held that trophy in 10 years, we are grateful that our day has come, all the credit goes to our pastor who encouraged us and supported us throughout the competition,” he said.

Bulawayo West won the title of best choir for the their composition Zano Chiro chakanaka which got the crowd ecstatic. The group walked away with another gold trophy and prize money of $50, while mumc came second and received another gold trophy and prize money of $25.

Gweru West took the title of best improved choir and Bulawayo West once again was nominated the best dressed choir.

The Bulawayo, Midlands district chairman Alois Muhomba said the competition exhibited growth among the groups in terms of dressing, choreography and presentation but the groups needed to observe what they are required to do by the judges.

“Our groups this year put up lively performances, a lot of energy and high levels of maturity in terms of harmony and synergy.

“The dressing and quality of voice has improved, I urge all other groups who did not register to do so next time,” he said.

The Bulawayo-Midlands’s district annual music competition of the United Methodist church was sponsored by Dickies Restaurant, Ice Cherry Botique, On Course Hardware and S and G supermarkets.
