The championships though could clash with the Region V Games, although this will add more economic boom in the City of Kings.

Zimbabwe hosted the ACCC at Khumalo Hockey Stadium in December 2012 where Sharkia of Egypt retained the club championships title in the men’s category while the women’s section was won by Telkom Ladies of Kenya.

Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) vice-president Humphrey Chigwedere yesterday confirmed that AHF had approached Zimbabwe to host the 2014 ACCC and president of the national association Gavin Stephens was handling the matter.

“The ACCC could be coming back to Bulawayo this year in the first week of December.

Nigeria was supposed to host this year’s edition, but it looks like countries are not willing to travel to that country because of Ebola and I understand the African Hockey Federation has asked us if we are interested in hosting the tournament,” Chigwedere said.

Meanwhile, HAZ will be holding its elective annual general meeting (AGM) on September 19 at Gateway High School in Harare.

A new executive committee will be elected on that day with most of the members, save for treasurer Virginia Ross, seeking re-election. Ross is a member of the AHF.

The current executive, elected in 2012 is led by Stephens, who took over from Farai “Kays” Kanyangarara at the helm from 2004 to 2011.

Chigwedere is the vice-president, Sarah Bennet (secretary-general), Ross (treasurer) and committee members are Tongai Mukwewa, William Birket, Nicola Taylor while Briony Bay has since resigned.

Prince Mwale is outgoing athletes representative.

The AGM will elect two delegates to the International Hockey Federation, the AHF and the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
