The Seventh-Day Adventist youngsters travelled to South Africa in mid-August to record and produce their first gospel album, a compact disc, and group members predict it would be appreciated by gospel lovers nationwide and even beyond.

Antony Mahachi, the group leader, told Southern Eye in a telephone interview that the release of their album was the start of better things to come from the ensemble.

“Our only prayer from the beginning of this year has been that our music be heard all over the country,” Mahachi said.

“We worked tirelessly and God blessed us with a sponsor from South Africa, Ndalwenhle Makhosi, who noticed the talent and invested in our music.”

The Embrace a cappella group is made up of nine Emganwini boys — Nkosiyezwe Khumalo, Dalithemba Ndlovu, Tatenda Muchwa, Bongani Ndebele, Admire Madzivire, Witness Ndlovu, Phambuka Tshuma, Eric Muza and Antony Mahachi.

When we Rise has nine tracks: Ukholo Lwami, Inkanyezi Yokukhanya, Izwi likaSomandla, Bayethe, He is the Salt, When We Rise, Ndomira pedyo, Pandamira and Kumagomo.

The group is making efforts to give their latest offering to local radio stations.

Madzivire said: “Our aim is to change people’s lives through music and this is just but the beginning of it all.”

Ndalwenhle Makhosi, the group’s South Africa-based sponsor, said he met the boys in 2009 when he attended a wedding in Zimbabwe and heard them perform. He loved their singing and promised to sponsor them.

“I was astonished to see great talent that these young men had unveiled and I promised to do something for them,” he said.

“Although it took me so many years to raise funds, I knew I had to do something for them.”

The group said that they were inspired mainly by the famous Bulawayo a cappella group Family Voices and they look forward to meeting them and having a chat in developing vocal skills.
