Dulini Ncube (71) died at Mater Dei Hospital last week after a long battle with diabetes. The youth assembly described him as a man whose character was founded on unshakable principles of justice and fairness.

“When describing him words like ‘selfless’ and ‘dedicated’ come to mind. This is a man who will always be a source of inspiration to us as young people. Dulini Ncube’s contribution to the struggle is not debatable (and) as young politicians we have a responsibility to take the baton and continue the race towards a just and fair Zimbabwe,” Adrian Rendani Moyo, the Bulawayo MDC youth assembly secretary for information, media and publicity said in a statement yesterday.

Moyo said they had a duty to immortalise him by upholding the principles he that stood for.

Dulini Ncube, who was the founding treasurer-general of the united MDC from 1999 until joining Ncube’s formation in 2005, was arrested together with Sonny Masera, then MDC director of security, and party activists Army Zulu, Kethani Sibanda, Remember Moyo and Sazini Mpofu on false accusations of murdering war veteran Cain Nkala.

Nkala was allegedly abducted from his Magwegwe home on November 5 2001 and subsequently murdered. His body was exhumed from a shallow grave at Norwood Farm near Solusi University on November 13 2001.

Dulini Ncube, who was the MP for Lobengula-Magwegwe, and his co-accused were allegedly tortured and threatened with death while in police custody.

They were also denied contact with their families, friends and legal representatives and the government used the pre-trial publicity to insinuate the guilt of the accused.

Dulini Ncube would be buried at Athlone Cemetery in Northend, Bulawayo tomorrow morning.
