According to the rankings released by Fifa yesterday, the Warriors are now number 92 in the world. They were previously on position 90. However, they remained static at number 24 in Africa.

Their fall on the rankings is attributed to inactivity after Zifa disbanded the Warriors following the disastrous elimination from the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifier to be staged in Morocco.

Zimbabwe crashed out after a disappointing 2-2 home draw against continental minnows Tanzania in the first round, second leg of the qualifiers at the National Sports Stadium in June.

They had been edged 1-0 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, thus they bombed out 3-2 on aggregate.

This meant the Warriors had to wait for the next two years to try their luck again in the continental championships to be staged in 2017. Zimbabwe is bidding to host the finals.

It’s difficult to take countries such as the Cape Verde (41 in the world), Libya 68 in the world and 15 in Africa and Sierra Leone (75 in the world and 17 in Africa) are ranked above the Warriors.

Algeria remained the top ranked country in Africa after moving four places up followed by Ivory Coast who moved three places up.

Tunisia who jumped a massive 11 places up claimed third position while Ghana are fourth after moving three places up.

Reigning world champions Germany headline the standings with beaten finalists Argentina on second position.

Colombia overtook the Netherlands to take third after moving one place up the ladder, Netherlands took fourth position and Belgium fifth.

But five-time World Cup champions Brazil who crashed out at the semi-final stage in a tournament held on home soil are a distant sixth position after moving one place on the ladder.
