The Blood of Jesus Christ

HEBREWS 9 VS 22: “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood and without shedding of blood there is no remission (or forgiveness).”

HEBREWS 9 VS 22: “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood and without shedding of blood there is no remission (or forgiveness).”

Life is in the blood Leviticus 17 vs 11: “For the life of the flesh (the creature) is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

When we sin, we earn death. Romans 6 vs 23 states: “The wages of sin is death.” Jesus paid this penalty for us by shedding His blood (dying for us in our place).

The word atonement (at-one-ment) means to be made at one with God. Jesus gave his life (shed His blood) on the cross for our atonement (at one ment) this made it possible for us to be at one with God.

Jesus’s blood means we no longer are His enemy, but His friends, His sons and daughters.

What sin does to our life

Separates us from God

Isaiah 59 vs 2: “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.”

Sin makes us feel guilty

Psalm 38 vs 4, “For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.”

Sin allows Satan to accuse us.

Revelation 12 vs 10: “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.”

24 hours a day accusation.

Sin demands the death penalty.

Ezekiel 18 vs 4: “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.”

The blood of Christ meets all our needs.

The blood is for God

The blood of Christ wholly satisfies God’s law – which requires a penalty for breaking the law.

1 John 5 vs 4 says: “Sin is breaking the law.”

The blood protects us from the penalty of breaking the law (death). In Exodus 12, God commands the people of Israel to put the blood of a lamb on their door posts to protect them from the destroyer – who would kill all the first born. The lamb was the picture of the Lamb – Jesus – who would come later. God said in Exodus 12 vs 13: “. . . when I see the blood, I will pass over you (protect you)”

Fellowship is restored by the blood of Jesus. Romans 5 vs 8-9: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”

Fellowship that is cut by sin is restored through the blood.

We are redeemed (purchased back from slavery) by the blood Ephesians 1 vs 7: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

We were slaves in the market place of sin, Christ bought us back.

The blood is for man The blood has satisfied God, now it is to satisfy us in the cleansing of our conscience from guilt. All guilt is washed away.

The blood cleanses from guilt Hebrews 9 vs 14: “. . . how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?’

The blood sanctifies us Hebrews 13 vs 12: “Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.” The blood of Jesus makes us holy.

The blood brings us close to God Colossians 1 vs 20-22: ‘…and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” vs 21: “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled.” vs 22: “. . . in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.”

Peace through His blood Brought us back from alienation.

The blood gives boldness to enter God’s presence Hebrews 10 vs 19-22: “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus.

“By a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.

“And having a High Priest over the house of God.

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

We enter into the Holy place by the blood. We are no longer fearful, but are bold in our approach of the throne.

The blood perfects us in the sight of God Hebrews 10 vs 14: “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” We are made perfect by the blood.
