The project’s main objective is to provide a fertile ground for young people’s imagination to create and write stories from primary to secondary schools.

The competition had four categories, which included Grades 6 and 7, Forms 1 and 2, Forms 3 and 4 and Forms 5 and 6.

Entrants chose specific topics to write on.

In the Grades 6 and 7 category, Bakani Dube of Mgomani Primary School came first, followed by Wendy Pedzisai (St Patrick’s Primary), Kimberly Mbewe and Irene Mavheko (Fusi Primary).

In the Form 1 and 2 category, Maxine Bennie (John Tallach) and Sibongumusa Ncube (Mtshabezi High) were top and the runners-up were Paen Chaurapa (Petra), Caroline Munoakwa (John Tallach) and Ashleigh Fedricks (Petra).

In Form 3 and 4, Sigrid Watson (Petra) was the winner followed by Sibongumusa Ndhlovu (Sizane High) and Mengezile Ndlovu (Msiteli High).

Alvin Chitena of St Columba’s High School won the Form 5 and 6 category.

AMH events and branding manager Dora Manyika said: “The project has been running from the year 2006 striving to promote and expose the talent of young writers in Zimbabwe. It has been our goal to reach out to all parts of the country and motivate young writers in expressing themselves through writing.”

Manyika expressed appreciation to the project sponsors MM Cellink, World Vision, POSB, Dairyboard, Nestlé, Red Seal, National Foods and the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe in partnership with the Swedish embassy.

Chipo Murezwa, the Culture Fund representative said they were proud to be part of such a project as it sought to promote children in identifying their writing talent at a tender age.

“Zimbabwe is gifted and it is time we acknowledge it,” Murezwa said.

Southern Eye deputy editor Njabulo Ncube said the Cover to Cover project was aimed at promoting young talent in Zimbabwe through writing and reading.
