The local authority appealed to residents to conserve water during this period.

Council said water interruptions would be experienced once the maintenance work goes beyond the planned timeframe.

In a statement, acting town clerk Sikhangezile Zhou said the maintenance works would be focused on valves and transformers.

“The public is advised that the City of Bulawayo will be carrying out maintenance work on valves and transformers at Ncema water works on Thursday October 2 between 7am and 5pm,” she said.

“There might be water supply interruptions should the maintenance programme exceed the stipulated timeframe.

“Consumers are kindly requested to conserve water during this period so as to minimise the impact.”

In recent weeks, several suburbs have been experiencing water cuts with council citing burst pipes and reservoir cleaning as the major cause. Criterion water works, the largest water treatment facility in the city, underwent major refurbishments in August in a move that was expected to improve the city’s water quality.

Maintenance work resulted in serious water shortages that saw some suburbs going for weeks without water.

After receiving high rainfall in the last rainy season, council relaxed the tight water-shedding regime, thereby increasing the water consumed by residents in all the city’s settlements.
