According to a statement from the local organising committee of the games, the government has directed that the torch, which was lit by President Robert Mugabe on September 18 at State House, be taken through the country’s 10 provinces.
“The torch for the games was lit on September 18 2014 at State House, Harare, by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde RG Mugabe as a symbol of hosting and commencement to games in December 2014.
Therefore, the government of Zimbabwe has directed that the torch be taken to the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe in a bid to inform and create awareness on the commitment to host the games,” read the statement.
The torch will be taken through all the provinces and will start in Mashonaland Central tentatively commencing this weekend and will go through all the provinces before reaching Bulawayo on November 25.
It will be taken through the city’s five districts Reigate, Imbizo, Khami, Mzilikazi and Bulawayo Central in five days prior to the start of the games. Provincial Affairs ministers would be patrons for the ceremonies in their respective provinces and will read Mugabe’s speech.
