The former asbestos miners are 14th on the log with 26 points, three points behind Chapungu who are in 10th position on the standings, having lost their last league match against Dynamos 1-0 two weeks back at Rufaro Stadium.

Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino said Shabanie mentor Jairos Tapera had been talking tough during the week.

“The Shabanie technical team is saying they are going to win the match. We are just going there to fulfil a fixture. We do not know what they have in store for us. I also do not know if they are invincible.

They have a lot at stake considering their position on the log. We have players from Shabanie as well as players who live in Gweru who play for Shabanie,” Nyikadzino said without elaborating.

He said he was not sure where Shabanie’s confidence was coming from as they were staring the chop in the face.

“I do not know where they get their confidence from. Look at where they are on the log — unless they have something else outside football that we know nothing about. We will see on Sunday where they get it from. All my players are ready,” he said.

The Chapungu gaffer’s comments come on the heels of a report this week where Tapera said they are confident of survival despite all odds.

“It is going to be a difficult end to the season. But we will fight to the last, it is an achievable task. If you are doing something you have to be confident that you would achieve it, and we at Shabanie are very confident that we would survive relegation,” he told our sister paper NewsDay on Tuesday.

“We have what it takes for us to survive relegation. We will take each game as it comes and make the best of it. It will be a tough match because we are both fighting relegation, but we are hoping to survive,” he said.
