The course started on Monday last week and was officially opened at YWCA on Thursday.

Zifa technical director Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe yesterday told Southern Eye Sport that they were happy to have the Fifa and Caf instructor assist local gaffers as they seek to improve their knowledge.

“The Fifa and Caf instructor and Swaziland technical director arrived in the country yesterday afternoon (Tuesday). He is responsible for the evaluation and assessment of the coaches during the course.

When he arrived they went through the oral assessment and then they did theory today (yesterday). They will do the practical assessment this afternoon (yesterday) at Milton Junior School. He will be here for the duration of the course,” he said.

Twenty six coaches from around the country are participating in the coaching course.

Jongwe said the coming in of Mkhonta will help coaches who were in attendance.

“It is an opportunity for our local coaches to share experiences with the veteran who has experience because he is a Fifa and Caf instructor. This course is a root to standardising our coaches. Going forward it will not be necessary for local clubs to have coaches who are not qualified,” he said.

The Zifa technical director last week took a swipe at Bulawayo coaches saying they do not participate in courses that were organised within the province but were quick to cry foul when mentors from outside are selected for national team assignments.

Former women’s football vice chairperson Cecilia Malunga also expressed disappointed on the turnout of the hosts coaches. Out of the 26 coaches who are participating in the course only four are from Bulawayo.

Jongwe said the next Caf B licence course is likely to be held in 2016.
