In a statement, Sadc said the meeting would be convened by the regional body’s secretariat to discuss strategic issues affecting the youth.

“The Sadc secretariat will convene a meeting of ministers responsible for youth from October 21 to 24 under the theme: ‘Youth Empowerment and Participation for Sustainable Development. The meeting will be attended by all Sadc ministers responsible for youth, their senior officials and youth organisations in the region,” reads the statement.

The regional body said the main purpose of the meeting was to bring together ministers responsible for youth and key stakeholders to discuss a number of strategic issues.

The strategic issues include a five-year regional strategy and programme of action for youth empowerment and participation in regional co-operation and integration for sustainable development.

The meeting will also come up with declaration on youth development and empowerment, mainstreaming youth empowerment and participation in agriculture, food and nutrition security.

In May 2013, the Youth ministers’ conference was held in Ezulwini in Swaziland.
