Zvikomborero Chikove, the outgoing club service director for the Belmont Rotaract Club said four clubs namely Belmont, Bulawayo, Matopos and National University of Science and Technology would be involved.

She said the cocktail would raise funds to assist cancer patients.

Edgars Stores, in conjunction with the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe, Fazak and Rotaract clubs will also hold a sponsored walk to raise funds towards the same cause.

“It is breast cancer month and we as the Rotaract clubs have joined together to raise money through the cocktail party to donate to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe, who are going to administrate the funds,” Chikove said.

“People should come wearing pink and free cocktails will be given to the first 100 ladies to walk in at the bar.

“We want to join in this initiative to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment.

“On the day there will be presentations that will give knowledge to people on early detection of breast cancer, which is associated with higher long-term survival rates.”

October is considered cancer awareness month in many countries including Zimbabwe.

NBCAM is an annual international health campaign organised by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
