A CULTURAL centre in honour of the late nationalist, Joshua Nkomo is set to be constructed in Matopo district by a Linganiso Nyathi, a war veteran, who said his aim was to turn the centre into a leading tourist attraction.

The facility would be known as Lalangwe Mbambangwe Memorial Trust and the Nkomo family is in support of the project.
Nyathi said land for the centre had been identified in Matopo and awaits council approval.
“The centre will have a Joshua Nkomo Memorial Library, recreational facilities to be used by students, curio shops and chalets,” he said.
“We will also have a scholarship for less privileged students of the community.
“I have already spoken to the Nkomo family through Sibangilizwe in 2011 and they were supportive of the project.
He said the village head of the area, Lumumba Ncube and the community had no objections.

Nyathi said he decided to set up the trust to honour Nkomo, whom he described as a leading light of Zimbabwe’s liberation.
“We want to keep the spirit of Nkomo alive and by doing so, more local and international tourists will be attracted to Matopo,” he added.
