Ndlovu, who was appointed by the politburo to head preparations for the congress in Bulawayo, described the vote of no confidence on Callistus as “cantankerous” behaviour a day after the Bulawayo chairman insisted he was still in charge.

“The provincial council meeting on Monday endorsed Ndlovu as the chairperson of the province and dismissed the fake vote of no confidence,” he said.

The politburo member accused George Mlala and his team of falsifying signatures of members of the provincial executive to justify their vote of no confidence on Callistus.

“They forged signatures after realising that they did not have the numbers,” Ndlovu charged.

“According to the party constitution, there must be a full meeting of proper appropriate organs of the party to pass a vote of no confidence.”

Led by provincial executive Nacisio Makhulumo, Bulawayo Zanu PF members reportedly met on Friday and agreed to pass a vote of no confidence motion against Callistus and five members of his executive.

Callistus shot back, instead firing Makhulumo and Mlala. Ndlovu insisted the meeting that passed a vote of no confidence motion on Callistus had not been properly constituted.

“Was there such a meeting? Were the party principles and procedures followed? It has never happened,” he said. “A provincial chairperson is not kicked out through a press conference.

“A press conference should be held to announce the results of a meeting of the provincial council. That is what Callistus did and the provincial council announced that they endorsed Callistus.”

The former Information minister said provincial chairpersons were not suspended through the media and proper channels should be followed.

“We are busy preparing for the congress and we do not have time for cantankerous behaviour by a few groups of mischievous misinformed people,” he said.

Callistus was on Sunday purportedly booted out over a number of charges including incompetence and corruption.

On Monday he held a press conference where he, instead, suspended Mlala and others who engineered the vote of suspension after accusing them of falsifying signatures of people.

Seven Zanu PF provincial chairpersons have been axed in a campaign aimed at blocking Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s retention of her post as President Robert Mugabe’s deputy.
