Sibanda, the leading goal scorer in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) with 12 goals and tied with How Mine’s Kuda Musharu was reported to be on his way to the South African side, but Maritzburg United operations manager Quintin Jettoo yesterday rubbished the reports saying: “It’s not true.”

Club spokesperson Brian Zuma, who referred Southern Eye Sport to Jettoo, spoke highly of two other Zimbabweans at Maritzburg, former Highlanders left-back Khumbulani Banda and striker Terrence Mandaza.

“We are proud to have the two players from Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Terrence (Mandaza) has been consistently doing well and Khumbulani has settled in well. Unfortunately, I don’t deal with issues of player contracts or interests and I can only refer you to our manager on that one (Charles Sibanda).”

Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede also said he was not aware of such a move.

“I don’t have that information,” he said.

“He is around and he is training. He cannot go without bidding the club farewell.”

Maritzburg are on position four in the Absa Premier Soccer League with 16 points from 10 games and are away to Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.

Ajax Cape Town, with 17 points from 10 matches and on position three, are home to former Highlanders midfielder Milton Ncube.

Sibanda, together with goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya, have been linked with a move to Dynamos next season.
