Zinwa had cut supplies to the town, but police threatened to detain its Umzingwane Catchment manager Tommy Rosen for defying a High Court order, forcing the authority to restore water supplies.

The authority’s corporate communications and marketing manager Marjorie Munyonga accused Gwanda of failing to pay its bills, saying this was also in violation of a High Court order.GAVEL LAW COURT

“Zinwa wishes to put it on record that the rationing that had been put in place came after the Gwanda municipality failed to pay its obligations to Zinwa in defiance of both their commitment to pay and provisions of the same High Court order which they allege Zinwa has violated,” she said in a written response to the Southern Eye.

“For the record, Gwanda municipality owes Zinwa in excess of $6 million and in terms of the provisional order in question, Gwanda is obliged to remit 70% of the money they collect from water sales to Zinwa, which they failed to do for the past three months.”
