Phiri registered third round technical knockout.

Manyuchi yesterday told Southern Eye Sport from his base in Zambia that good preparations were the main reason behind defending the title he won against Ghana’s Patrick Allottey in March.

“The fight was very good. I was well prepared. I had been in camp for three months and that helped me. I was very disappointed that the Colombian boxer could not go far in the fight. I wanted to go on, but I was too good for him,” he said.

Manyuchi attributed his success to hard work.

“I believe in God and I worked hard. If you work hard God will give you the best. For now I want to continue training until I know my next step.

“My manager (Chris Malunga) will be going to Las Vegas next month, that is when I will know the way forward. I will keep training then if something comes up I will take it,” he said.

Manyuchi had some of his property stolen in Zambia and also missed a few days of training ahead of the fight, but said that did not distract him as he was already prepared for the fight.

“The police have found my property that was stolen. I am going to see them tomorrow (today). I missed a few days of training when I was sick, but that did not affect me because I had started preparing for the fight early and I was already prepared,” the Zimbabwe welterweight champion said.

His manager Malunga from Zambia’s Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions praised the two boxers.

“Charles and Catherine won their fights on third round technical knockouts. Catherine will now go fight for the WBC main belt. We will decide the next move for Charles then because I will be travelling to Las Vegas next month.

They won their fights because they were well prepared and fit,” he said.
