Siyaya Arts and Sabela music director Saimon Mambazo, told Southern Eye Lifestyle that the festival would be the largest event “ever to be seen in Bulawayo”.

Mambazo said the festival would run under the theme “No Limits” and would feature “first-class music, dance, film, literature, arts, poetry and theatre”.

“Ibumba will aim to be the largest event in the greater Bulawayo community in December,” he said.

“In the midst of so many offerings, Ibumba Festival sets out to be distinctive by creating a programme that appeals to all.

“We have chosen the theme ‘No Limits’ as we believe that art knows no limits.

“There will be no limits in our work ethic, the artistes, the acts, the audiences and everything to do with this festival.”

He said new theatre productions had been lined-up and new musicians would showcase their talents.

“Our comedy programme will be fresh, with your usual ‘suspects’ and a few new surprises. In all we will present more than 50 shows in six temporary spaces. The main site is Stanley Square in Makokoba,” he added.

Ibumba Festival 2014 will be held at five venues with Stanley Square (the main stage) housing the bands and all the big acts.

Stanley Hall — the indoor stage — will host all theatre shows and some music acts.

The jazz/accoustic bar will host comedy, literary artistes and the Sabela Summer School.

Stanley Square’s Nkulumane Hall will be the venue for some of this year’s shows and the Family of God Auditorium situated along Jason Moyo Street will host gospel concerts.

“This is part of our expansion programme which will see us appeal to a wider audience,” Mambazo said.

Albert Nyathi is set to headline the festival at Stanley Square on December 16.

Other confirmed performances are DJ Slamma, Iyasa, Ibumba football tournament, Ramsey Kasawaya and Siyaya.
