Voices in Colour is a Bulawayo-based arts organisation whose mission is to connect contemporary artists and encourage exchange programmes in the southern region of the country.

In an interview with Southern Eye Lifestyle, the curator and artistic director of the organisation Mthabisi Phili said the creative programme of exhibitions, parade, music and performances sought to create a contemporary environment where artists and communities could engage in creative exchanges.

“We realised that arts have become a privilege for a few people that can afford to visit museums and galleries rather than a part of our lives that we encounter and respond to every day,” he said.

“Feet-in City seeks to present art in a different and new dimension as compared to other artistic initiatives.

We are presenting art in the public space, celebrating space and the temporary audience.

“The Feet-in City parade and public performances, therefore, will cause a radiant waking up of the city’s communities and artists in public spaces.

“The parade is for everyone and will be a celebration of our place and our home. We aim to spread the value of the city, its people, history, cultural diversity and multiplicity of identities as well as symbols that exist in Bulawayo.”

The events are set for Njube Hall on December 12 where a community-inspired exhibition and mini-parade will be held from 10:30am.

On December 13, public interactive performances and a Feet-in City Parade will be held at the National Arts Gallery in Bulawayo and Large City Hall.

World renowned imbube group Black Umfolosi, Impumelelo Shining Stars, Umkhathi Theatre Works and Hudson Simbarashe are set to perform at the official opening of the music show at the Centenary Park.
