Ke Dezember boss

THIS week I thought we should just throw our sails to the wind and touch on various issues and activities.

THIS week I thought we should just throw our sails to the wind and touch on various issues and activities.

After all ‘Ke Dezember Boss” (It’s my boss).

The festive season is upon us and there is already a buzz of what is to come. The much-awaited annual Kalawa Jazmee show is already talk of the town.

Talk of reputation. When a show creates so much hype and seems to have a life of its own even before there is much advertising you simply need to give credit where it’s due.

The Kalawa show has become a calendar event in the city and it’s always a good feeling and big boost for any event organiser when the event creates so much excitement year in and year out. I wish we could do the same for our local events.

Talking of excitement, the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games are now underway. A colourful opening from the city’s artists alongside some from other regions is scheduled for Sunday.

The city will receive an early Christmas present. Bulawayo has got talent, no doubt about that and it is the working spirit displayed by our artistes that we need to nurture to prosperity.

Whatever the circumstances our artistes are always eager to impress and I am sure they again will not disappoint at this calling.

There is strength in numbers and a lot of creativity in diversity. Each time I watch our national ensembles at award ceremonies and national events I am left in awe. I look forward to the opening spectacle.

I think as a country we need to develop regional and national ensembles that will function throughout years rather than those prompted by events.

The National Arts Council through the government needs to consider organising and bringing together artistes to form permanent arts ensembles bringing together various artistes from various genres.

This would go a long way in building audiences for our arts and creating opportunities for artists locally and internationally.

Done properly, that could attract support from donors and corporates than individuals and groups currently do.

It will help promote and expose a lot of upcoming talent. After all is said, let us support the Youth Games and the various cultural events that come with it. Let the games begin!

Generations is back on the screens on SABC 1 just like a phoenix.

After all the hullaballoo and drama that resulted in the scandalous implosion of the show grinding to a halt producer Mfundi Vundla stood by his word and fired the whole cast suffice to say.

On December 1 curious viewers were glued to their sets in anticipation of how the soapy would rise from its ashes.

Indeed Tau Mogale was raised from the dead, while Karabo Moroka made a return to the show.

The first episodes have not made a lot of sense as viewers try to connect the story from where it ended. Some viewers were quick to blast the soapie on social media claiming that it was boring and uninteresting.

They also mocked the lack of experienced actors in comparison to the old cast they felt was better, a sign that it did not live up to their expectations.

Vundla, the executive producer of the popular TV show Generations, said he was not fazed by fans’ criticism of the revamped soapie. He insisted that it’s the beginning of a new journey and the negativity is expected.

What is refreshing though is that there is fresh talent in the soapie, with so much potential to rise as the show goes on.

One man’s downfall is another man’s opportunity. This could be the birth of new icons.

Switching to another channel, it’s the final week of Big Brother Africa Hotshots and who thought the Zimbabwean contestants Butterphly and JJ would still be in the game by now?

I admit I was one of the doubting Thomases.

I had not given them a chance because I thought they were too passive, but I have been proved otherwise. It pays at times to go unnoticed and to avoid too much drama.

They are winners already. They deserve to be congratulated for such a tremendous effort. We hope this chance will open new avenues for them.

Still at BBA news is, Elikem dumped Pokello on Twitter! The 26-year-old took to twitter to explain himself. “Pokello broke up with me three months ago because Gloria was harassing her.

“I fought to get her back now it seems I can’t win,” The Ghanaian admitted that he once dated Gloria Lamptey who is 20 years older than him. “I had an affair with Gloria Lamptey for four years before Big Brother.

I tried to start a new life with Pokello but it seems my past won’t allow,” .Just like Bev, Pokello’s life is not short of drama, twists and turns. Enough said, do publicly flaunted affairs last? Keep walking.
