THE Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) is bracing for a busy year in 2015 after releasing a bumper schedule which will see local golfers featuring in a number of regional and international tournaments. DANIEL NHAKANISO SPORTS REPORTER
The major highlight of the year will be the sixth edition of the revived Zimbabwe Open which returned to the local calender in 2010 having been off the radar for a decade.
According to the schedule released by the ZGA’s development officer Boniface Chigorimbo, the Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned Zimbabwe Open will be held during the week of April 6 to 12.
Zimbabwe’s flagship tournament draws golfers from around the world, but South Africans have dominated while the coveted title has remained elusive to local golfers.
For local amateurs, two regional tournaments are lined up starting with the Zone VI Golf Championships from April 12 to 18 in Uganda and the prestigious All-Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship to be held from September 25 to 30.
The hosts of the biannual All-Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship tournament are, however, yet to be confirmed.
The 2010 ZGA season will tee off with the Dugmore Trophy to be held in Bulawayo over the weekend of January 17 to 18 with the next big tournament being the Julius Robinson Trophy on the first weekend of February.
The Filande tournament which usually features provincial teams in a matchplay contest follows from February 20 to 22.

Local amateur golfers will take part in the Mawegu Amateur Championships from March 6 to 8 and the Masvingo Amateur Champs from March 20 to 22.
Other major tournaments on the calender include the annual club championships to be played at all golf clubs around the country from May 9 to 10.
One of the country’s biggest amateur tournaments, the Zimbabwe Amateur will run from August 7 to 10 at a venue to be confirmed.
While the ZGA men’s calendar is flooded with fixtures, the women’s calendar — details of which should be released soon — equally has a substantial number of fixtures which should keep the country’s woman golfers competitively occupied for the entire year.
