Musa Mandaza, the Zifa Southern Region chairman yesterday confirmed the event.

The venue for the ceremony is yet to be announced. The event, together with the presentation of the floating trophy to champions Tsholotsho FC had been postponed due to the ended Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games.

“We are having our awards on Friday. The event is set for Bulawayo, but we are not yet sure of the actual venue which I am sure we will know by the end of today (yesterday). We have not yet presented the trophy to our champions, we might also use the same event to present the trophy to Tsholotsho, but this is not certain,” Mandaza said.

The league’s outstanding players were voted for, last month with champions Tsholotsho FC and Technosphere contributing two players each to the list.

Tsholotsho top goalscorer Edmore Chirambadare who impressed a number of Premier Soccer League giants and goalkeeper Chang Mariyone made it to the final 11 while Technosphere have Kelvin Nyoni and Gift Mbweti.

Former champions Plumtree Chiefs forward Kundishora Chakanyuka, Mpumalanga’s Wellington Chipendo former Hwange, FC Platinum and How Mine striker Simon Njeleza, who finished the season at Black Boots, Brian Chikwenya of Trumus, Fidelis Dube (Ntabazinduna), New West’s Webster Kondowe and Desire Shumbanhete of ZPC Hwange complete the list of players set for the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League’s stars calendar.

The league’s player of the year will walk away $300 richer with the first runner-up getting $150 while the second runner-up will pocket $100.

Chirambadare who netted 18 league goals helping Tsholotsho to win the championship will grab $300 for being the top goal scorer.

Awards sponsors Machache Meats also pledged $250 for the coach of the year.

The rest of the players will get $50 each. Tsholotsho FC, who got the nod to rub shoulders with big boys in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League next season, is yet to be honoured by the regional football mother body.
