A MAN from Gwabalanda suburb in Bulawayo allegedly stabbed his girlfriend after a misunderstanding over how many times she had slept with an alleged South Africa-based ex-lover. PRESTIGE GAMA OWN CORRESPONDENT Danemore Jumbe (28) appeared before the Western Commonage magistrate, Tancy Chipumha-Dube, where he pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend, but denied stabbing her.

He was charged with physical abuse and was remanded in custody to January 12 next year for continuation of trial.

Prosecutor Kenneth Shava told the court that Kholwani Baloyi, Jumbe’s girlfriend, returned from the bathroom to retire for the night, when her boyfriend summoned her to discuss something. She reluctantly went to hear what he had to say.

Jumbe then questioned Baloyi on how many times she had slept with an unnamed South African, man, an ex-lover.

Baloyi responded by saying she did not like being asked about her past relationships. Jumbe insisted on asking the same question.

“He asked me over and over again the same question, which annoyed me to a point I told him I was tired of his questioning me about my past sexual relations,” she said.

As tensions rose, Jumbe reportedly stood up and went to call their landlord to witness how rude his girlfriend was, before assaulting her.

Baloyi tried to escape the beating through a window, but was pulled back into the house and was later stabbed with a kitchen knife in the left eye.

She was then taken to hospital. The landlord reported the matter to the police, leading to Jumbe’s arrest.
