BAB secretary Dailes Bingadadi confirmed the race which is used to select athletes to represent the province at the national cross-country meet in Kadoma next month.

“The race is on and it is through this competition that we get to select athletes to represent Bulawayo at the national cross-country that will be held in Kadoma in February, where athletes to represent the country at regional marathons this year will also be selected,” she said.

“Everything is now in place and we look forward to a good turnout. We are hoping to come up with the best team to represent Bulawayo.”

ZRP Fairbridge’s Isaac Mpofu last year led other five clubmates in the senior men category in the Nketa Park race.

He qualified with the best time of 39mins 16,42secs, beating clubmates Ngonidzashe Ncube (39mins 16,74secs), Trust Chidomaya with 39mins 40,14secs, John Payarira (39mins 48,55secs), Trust Madoro (42mins 48,50secs) and Charles Chivanga who recorded 42mins 51,84secs.

In the senior women’s category, Ruth Mandebvu of Bulawayo City Striders won the race in 31mins 37,60secs beating Annie Chirisa (ZRP FB) and Nomsa Silenje an independent athlete, who had best times of 34mins 28,10secs and 36mins 10,00secs respectively.

Nkosilathi Bafana of Sparrows Athletics Club finished one of the races in 27mins 01,75secs producing the best time in the junior men’s category.
