In an interview with Southern Eye Lifestyle yesterday, Mpofu said the track was dedicated to his friend’s wedding.

“Mary was actually a wedding song for a friend of ours, then it became an epic love track. It’s absolutely crazy,” Mpofu said.

The soulfully done song features some of the city’s vocally-gifted singers Skillz and Bongani, popularly known as Bongz.

The song was recorded at Velocity Records Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, formerly known as Face the Music Studios, and was written and produced by Mpofu.

“These are exciting times for us as a record label. Things are really happening and this year we plan on having some great exploits and therefore people should watch this space. This track is a taste of what is to come,” Mpofu said.

“We have employed the able services of one of the greatest music video directors in the country, Andy Cutta, so people should expect fireworks. The video aims at meeting the Channel O standard of quality and appeal.”

Mpofu said the video and the song were due for release in mid-February. He urged budding artistes not to sit on their dreams, but pursue their endeavours to their logical conclusion.

“Anyone who has a dream of being a musician must take it seriously. Considering that this year is a year when things are happening for Bulawayo, people must not sit on talent, but pursue their dreams and excel.”

The gifted 23-year-old also expressed his joy at the name change of the music studio.

“I for one am very excited at the future of music in Bulawayo. Since we bought the studio from Face, we had not done an official launch, but have now settled for February 28 as the official launch date of Velocity Records Zimbabwe.

“We will also be conducting a talent search on the same day. Velocity is not a music studio, it is a record label, hence we are working with various artistes of whom I am not at liberty to disclose at the present moment,” Mpofu added.
