The executive was elected on an interim capacity recently on the request of the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) as there was no activity in the sport in Bulawayo.

“I am the chairperson of the interim Bulawayo Volleyball Association executive that was elected last month. We will be in charge for six months then we will see how it goes from there.

There will be elections. We have quite a lot of objectives even though we would be in for a short while.

“We want to see the revival of active volleyball for clubs and juniors. We want to work closely with schools. We want to see the sport grow so that it could attract the corporate world.

The sport is not marketed as it should be. We want to change that,” he said.

He said they want to make Bulawayo a volleyball powerhouse like it used to be.

“Our major objective is to make Bulawayo a volleyball powerhouse like in the past when we had very strong teams like Unit Fairbridge. If you look at the ZVA national league, Railstars (men) won it last year. If we can consolidate that then the sport will go forward,” he said.

With the coming up of beach volleyball in the country, Mazviro said they were hoping to get facilities where the sport would be played. The province is expected to host a beach volleyball series in the city in May.

Volleyball enthusiasts will be hoping that Mazviro’s executive will work hard to revive the sport. Mazviro is keen on the development of the sport.

He organises the Luveve High School Volleyball Academy tournament which attracts schools from in and around Bulawayo.

The tournament was launched in 2011.
