HWANGE skipper Rodwell Chinyengetere says he might not be in action for some time as he awaits surgery to remove a metal plate that was inserted in his right leg after he suffered a double fracture in a league match against Monomotapa in 2012.

Chinyengetere suffered a career-threatening injury in September that year when then Monomotapa goalkeeper Artwell Mukandi lunged at him.

He returned to action last year after a solid 18-months lay-off and inspired the coal miners to a 5-1 victory over Buffaloes in the first league match when he grabbed a brace at the Colliery.

“I am at home in Kadoma. I am still a Hwange player and I have trained in pre-season and will be returning soon to start training. At the moment I’m just waiting to hear when I am going for the operation and I think after the surgery it might take a bit of time before I start playing,” Chinyengetere said.

Coach Nation Dube, who is in Harare in camp with the Under-23 Young Warriors for the first round first leg of the All-Africa Games qualifier against Cameroon, yesterday said all costs have been paid for the former Warriors midfielder’s surgery and he was hopeful that after the operation, Chinyengetere would be back in action within  two months.

“I would have thought he would have had the operation by now. He should be aware when he should be going to see the doctors. All expenses have been paid for and it is our hope that after the operation, Rodwell will be back after eight weeks." Hwange coach Nation Dube

The 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League will start on March 21.

“I would have thought he would have had the operation by now. He should be aware when he should be going to see the doctors. All expenses have been paid for and it is our hope that after the operation, Rodwell will be back after eight weeks. I am not in Hwange for now, I’m in Harare with the Under-23s and I thought he (Chinyengetere) was in Harare too,” Dube said.

Albeit commanding a first team jersey for Hwange last season, Chinyengetere appeared to be limping from the 2012 injury, an indication the talented midfielder might not have fully recovered.

Hwange lost Oscar Lungu and Richard Jongwe who were replaced by Gift Mbweti and Innocent Mucheneka from their developmental side.

Chipangano retained senior players Evans Rusike, Gilbert Zulu, Andrew Chuma, David Boriwondo, Aleck Marime, Nkosana Siwela and Farai Vimisayi.

They have in their fold Young Warriors’ Pritchard Mphelele who is in camp in Harare with the Under-23s. Hwange have Newman Sianchali who was promoted from the juniors.
