Sixty five athletes were selected during the Bulawayo inter-district athletics competitions that were held last week at White City. The team is coached by Ndaba Moyo and Arnold Chaka.

Bulawayo will compete against the country’s nine other provinces: Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, the Midlands, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Masvingo and Harare.

Naph chairman Njabulo Bango confirmed the training programme.

“Athletes will not camp, but we have arranged to pick them up from their schools to start training tomorrow (today) at White City Stadium.

“Training sessions will be conducted from 2pm to 3:30pm until the day the athletes depart on March 24,” Bango said.

“Athletes who clocked close to standard times, will be given specialised training in order to increase their medal chances.

“They will be under the supervision of Juma Phiri who holds the high jump record of 2,16m which he set in July 1999 and Nyasha Chakaranga,” Bango said.

Last year, Mashonaland West came ahead of Bulawayo while Masvingo was in third position in athletics.

Mashonaland Central were the champions in physical education followed by Harare.
