Chairman of the region, Musa Mandaza, confirmed the development yesterday.

“We have received correspondence from the province (Zifa Bulawayo Province) and they have seconded Casmyn for the Southern Region Soccer League. We received that letter today and Casmyn have sent us an acceptance letter, which we have just received and they have said that they are prepared. They (Casmyn) will be coming to pay their affiliation fees tomorrow (today),” Mandaza said.

Mandaza said they might be forced to postpone the start of the league, which was scheduled to begin at the weekend to allow for the smooth registration of players for the coming new team.

“We are having a brief meeting as we speak to map the way forward,” he said.

Magwegwe Pirates came second in the Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two League last year and were promoted together with champions Bulawayo City (then BCC Golden Stars).

But due to financial constraints, Magwegwe Pirates have not been able to show commitment that they could sustain themselves in the Southern Region Soccer League, forcing the region to approach the province for another team.

Zim Leopards, who came third in Division Two, appear not to have been ready for Division One, hence Casmyn, who took position four, are coming on board.

Bulawayo City won the Division Two championship with 55 points from 30 matches, Magwegwe Pirates were second with 54 points, Zim Leopards took third spot with 53 points while Casmyn had 51.

Bulawayo City, coached by former Premier Soccer League mentor Philani “Beefy” Ncube, have already paid their full affiliation fees together with Makomo, who were promoted from Zifa Matabeleland North.

Amagagasi from Matabeleland North have made a part payment.
